The thing to remember when it comes to selling your scrap is to determine the type. Generally there are three main types we deal in, one being magnetic (400 series), non-magnetic (304 series) and 316. 316 will usually have a stamp imprinted on it somewhere.
Magnetic Stainless Steel Scrap is generally not worth more than steel price and some scrap metal yards don’t even deal in it and it usually goes in to the scrap steel bin.
316 Stainless Steel Scrap is worth the most and in the absence of a stamp can really only be determined by a very expensive scanner gun.
The main type of Stainless Steel Scrap that passes through a scrap metal yard is 304. This metal is usually what your kitchen sink is made out of.
